Wilson Lin grew up in southern California and came here to Sacramento to study at CSUS. Through the CSUS design department, Wilson discovered the medium of photography, and realized that his interest and natural ability were great enough to warrant pursuing photography in depth.
Wilson’s work addresses concepts of identity, specifically of how individuals see themselves versus the way that others see them. These projects offer only glimpses into the subject, purposefully telling only a partial story and inciting both the participation and introspection of the viewer. In the process of photographing various materials- from miniatures, to magazine erotica, to his own body- and making decisions as to what and how to highlight, obscure, focus, and project, his works often reveal opinions and views he never knew he held. In this way, Wilson uses his art to explore not just identity in general, but also his own sense of self.
Wilson’s work has been exhibited throughout Sacramento, including group and solo shows at the Else, Witt, and Beatnik Studios gallery spaces. He has been included in more prestigious art competitions including the 75th Crocker-Kingsley Art Exhibit and Crocker Art Auction. Wilson was also named the Best of Show
in the University Union Gallery's Annual Student Purchase Award Show, and been named Best Photographer of 2009
by the State Hornet.
At this point in his career Wilson has secured his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Photography and is pursuing a Master of Fine Arts.
